My Profile: You know how there are those who say they knew what they wanted to be ever since they were five years old? Well, in a sense, I can say I am that person. In all seriousness, I have always had increased curiosity for science. In fact, I am currently a senior enrolled in the International Baccalaureate diploma program at North Hall High School. For the past couple of years, I have had the opportunity to take classes such as IB Biology and IB Chemistry, which have allowed me to learn some of the essentials. I have also taken a separate Biology and a Human Anatomy class my first two years of high school, all of which, have also increased my passion and determination to become a doctor.
My Mentorship: This year I have the amazing opportunity to shadow a wonderful Cardiologist at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Since the beginning a couple months ago, I have used my prior knowledge and applied it to what I experience at my mentorship, which allows me to learn and retain a lot of information. Not only do I get the opportunity to work with one brilliant doctor, I also have the chance to work will some of her wonderful colleagues. This entails me experiencing more medical procedures, and in turn, gaining more knowledge and exposure. Even more, the doctors take it upon themselves to make the experience twice as unique and fun by testing my knowledge, thus challenging me to learn more. Overall, what I have gained so far will most definitely aid in me pursuing my career as a Cardiologist. The part of it all is that I have still have many more months of exposure to come!
My Future: Since it is my last year of high school, I'm planing on attending college in the year to come. Although I will hate leaving this experience behind, I don't intend on making it the last of it's kind. Wherever I do end up attending college next year, I do plan on continuing my exposure to the medical world. This might entail volunteering at the local hospital, or maybe getting a job that I qualify for. Whatever it is, I do know that I am excited and eager to becoming one step closer to my future.

It looks like you are gaining a great deal from your mentorship!
ReplyDeleteYour mentorship sounds super interesting! Especially to me, because I'm sort of lousy at science. Hopefully you will still be able to help out your mentorship site during the summers between college, that way you won't have to leave them entirely behind!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you are learning a lot from your mentorship! The field you are mentoring in sounds super interesting. Hopefully you will still have the opportunity to work more with your mentorship site over the course of the summer and your collegiate career. Also, I hope you can pursue this career field after college as well.
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be getting a lot out of your experience in your mentorship and enjoying it. I have no doubt that you will find a job after college that you "qualify" for. I hope you continue to develop a love for what you do and never stop learning. You are so fortunate to know all along what you wanted to do for a career. I just recently decided I was interested in teaching. Knowing sooner could have saved me a lot of stressed out days trying to figure out what I wanted to do regarding my future.
Your mentorship seems so cool! You seem very excited about your passion to be a doctor and there is little doubt you will become one. You seem to be very well knowledged about your field of study and it's easy to understand that it has been your passion since you were little. I hope you reach your goals in life and achieve great things! Good luck Sarah!
